- Aquatic Facility Operator Course | MPRA
PROGRAM DETAILS REGISTRATION SCHEDULE SE PTEMBER 25-26, 2023 >> Maryville, MO < < The Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) program is a state-o f-the-art five-year certification for professionals managing and operating aquatic facilities. Individuals who obtain the AFO credential are knowledgeable in the systematic approach to pool operations including pool chemistry, management, pool safety, and risk reduction. PROGRAM DETAILS PREPARATION You will receive your course materials approximately three weeks prior to the first day of the course. It is extremely important that you read the course materials prior to attending the class. Failure to study the materials before the course commonly leads to failure of the exam. CEU’s Earn 1.5 CEU’s while participating in this seminar. NRPA will forward you a transcript of your attendance 6-8 weeks after the course is finished. COURSE & EXAM This course will take place virtually, over Zoom, with a live AFO instructor. At the end of the course, you will take the open-book exam from your computer. CERTIFICATION You will receive a notification with your exam results at the completion of the exam directly from the instructor. If you pass the exam you will be certified as an AFO for a period of five years. At the end of your certification cycle, you can elect to attend the course again (recommended) or elect to take the exam only. Due to changes in regulations and content, it is highly recommended your repeat the coursework prior to renewing your certification. QUESTIONS? The program is specifically designed to meet the needs of those working in public, semi-public, and municipal pools or waterparks, and to provide training and information for both supervisory and operations staff. The AFO instructor team is comprised of top aquatic professionals who have diverse backgrounds in aquatic facility operations and management. The instructors are consistently rated as excellent speakers and trainers by the AFO students. The AFO program creates better aquatic operators, who in turn make safer and increasingly efficient programs for aquatic venues. MPRA Members are eligible for certification reimbursement. PROGRAM DETAILS HEALTH & SAFETY REGISTRATION SPONSORS LODGING November 7-9, 2023 >> Independence, MO << The Missouri Park & Recreation Association, in conjunction with the National Recreation and Park Association, offers the industry-leading certification program in playground safety, the Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification program. The CPSI certification program provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date training on playground safety issues including hazard identification, equipment specifications, surfacing requirements, and risk management methods. MPRA SPECIAL PROGRAMS Scholarships Certification Reimbursements Ticket Consignment Splash Pass Missouri Trails Project Helpful Links and Resources NRPA Equity in Practice Resources Scholarships Eligible applicants or the annual conference scholarship must be a full-time employee or board/commission member of an MPRA agency member or an individual professional member of MPRA. For 2023, MPRA will be awarding a full conference scholarship to four (4) MPRA members, including a full delegate pass to the MPRA Conference and Expo; 3 room nights; and a $100 food and gas stipend. Scholarships have closed for the 2023 Conference & Expo. Check again later this year for 2024 opportunities! Certification Reimbursements MPRA may annually disburse the previous year's gains/contributions on the MPRA Education Fund, not to exceed $5,000. These funds will reimburse a full-time employee or board/commission member of an MPRA agency member, an individual professional member, orga nizational member, or student member of MPRA who successfully obtained or renewed a certification listed below (with priority going to new candidates). Ticket Consignment Discount amusement park tickets can be purchased at MPRA member parks and recreation departments across the state. The 2022 Ticket Consignment program has ended and the 2023 season will begin this Spring. Check back for more information. A limited number of passes are available for purchase. Each Splash Pass card has two visit punches to each participating pool. The punches may be used by two different people. Splash Passes must be purchased in person (with cash) from the pools listed on the links below, but be sure to call the pool first to check availability! ABOUT US On November 29, 1959 the Missouri Recreation Association and the Missouri Recreation and Park Society merged forming the Missouri Park and Recreation Association (MPRA). MPRA serves as the voice for parks and recreation in Missouri on the local, state and national level. The nonprofit association, whose members work to provide opportunities for all the state’s citizens to enjoy quality leisure activities, is dedicated to promoting public support for parks and recreation and public awareness of the contribution of recreation to a balanced life. The association works to ensure the growth and improve the quality and accessibility of urban and rural parks, open spaces and recreational lands, facilities and programs for all Missourians. It promotes research and information dissemination on park, conservation, recreation and leisure issues. By-Laws Manual of Procedures MPRA strives to maintain high standards of professional ethics and practices by promoting continuing education for its membership. The association encourages the support of college and university curricula to enhance research and assure a well-trained stream of future professionals.
